I am a studio potter with a background in textiles and contemporary embroidery. Based in Manchester, both my work and personal life has been steeped in a rich textile heritage, this heavily influences my ceramics practice, and is a key point of visual reference.

I particularly enjoy forming my own tools and stamps to produce intricate surfaces and objects with a tactile quality. I approach a clay slab in a similar way to which I would a piece of fabric, often using techniques such as inlay to achieve unique patterns and textures.

My pieces are produced in various stoneware and local iron rich clays, using traditional hand building techniques, manipulating slabs of clay to piece together my various forms. I enjoy a slow approach to my method of making, and my aim is to create treasured pieces that retain a subtle sense of the maker’s hand.

Following on from my Clay College experience I hope to continue making and further my exploration into surface detail. Maintaining a focus on sourcing natural and non-polluting materials.

Creating treasured pieces that retain a subtle sense of the maker’s hand.
